I want to know what happened to John Sanders Myhre of Norway, last seen in Chicago

About the Subject:
  • John Sanders Myhre b. 30 May 1900 Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway
  • to John Gustav and Sandra Bernodine (Gunderson) Myhre.
  • John Sanders Myhre arrived (alone) in the US 21 August 1923,
  • He married 5 Apr 1930 in Chicago, Cook Co, Illinois to Agnes Weidlich,
  • She was the dau of William Wendelin Weidlich and Emma Horn.
  • Agnes gave birth to their one and only child, John Edmund Myhre on 2 Mar 1931 in Chicago.
  • Unfortunately she died 22 Feb 1934 in Chicago of Tuberculosis
  • and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Evergreen City, IL.
  • John Sanders put his son, John Edmund Myhre in an orphanage and disappeared.
  • It is not known which orphanage,
  • or how long John Edmund Myhre remained in the orphanage,
  • but his maternal grandparents, William Wendelin and Emma (Horn) Weidlich rescued him and raised him with the rest of their family.
  • until John Edmund Mhyre joined the military,
  • moved to Washington State,
  • married and
  • had three children.
  • He died in Spokane in 2000.
Those three children are my first cousins and have pleaded with me to find out what happened to their paternal grandfather, John Sanders Myhre. I have been looking on and off for almost a year now and cannot find anything about him after Agnes died.

Possible Clues?

The Rest of his Family
His parents, John Gustav Myhre and Sandra Bernodine Gunderson (both b. 1877 Norway) married in Stavanger, Norway, and had three sons;
  1. Hjalmar b. 1898. ( I think he also immigrated to US later, but I'm not sure)
  2. John Sanders b. 1900
  3. Harold b. 1901 He immigrated to US, md Berniece in Chicago, had a family, died there in 1961, buried in Mt. Olive, Chicago.
Johan and Sandra probably ended their marriage shortly after Harold's birth.

His Father;
  • I found John Gustave Myhre had immigrated to the US in 1903,
  • settled in Chester, Delaware Co, PA,
  • married Margaret B.,
  • and had another son, Gerhard Myhre b. 1911 in PA.
  • Don't know where John Gustav died or what became of Gerhard (yet).

His Mother:
  • Sandra, married before 1911 in Norway to Sigvard Braaten
  • had a daughter, Mary Braaten b. 1911 in Norway.   (she later became Mrs. Hansen)
  • they had all immigrated to the US,
  • and settled in Chicago, Cook Co, IL
  • However there are MULTIPLE immigration/emmigration records showing Sandra and/or Sigvard travelling (almost always alone) back and forth to Norway like it was a trip to the supermarket.
  • I have not discovered when or where any of them ended up (yet).
Conclusion
Except for finding John S MAYER (sic). and his brother, Harold, in the household of their mother and step-father in the 1930 Chicago census (just before John S's marriage to Agnes) I have found no evidence that John Sanders Myhre ever joined any one of these relatives after the death of Agnes, but I don't have any evidence to the contrary either. Perhaps the release of the 1940 census will help answer some of the pending questions.

IF Anyone knows ANYTHING about what happend to this John Sanders Myhre, please let me know.  Did he marry and have another family?  Did he contract TB like his wife, and die young? Did he return to Norway?  Did he link up with other family members?  It is unlikely that he is still alive, but where would he be buried?  Agnes was buried in Evergreen and his brother, Harold, is buried in Mt. Olive in Chicago.  I wonder if John S might be resting near one of them. Hmmm.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
